María Cielos is a Catalan singer-songwriter who returned to her homeland after nearly eight years living in Rwanda. Her debut album, Perenne Pilar, released in January 2025 under the Microscopi label, is a meticulous work that weaves together a mature poetic language with folk, indie folk, and singer-songwriter traditions, incorporating influences from traditional Rwandan music and the emotional depth we recognize in flamenco. It is a work that tells, with honesty, passion, and movement, the human experience of living and the forces that drive us throughout our lives. The album features collaborations with Rwandan and Catalan artists.
María Cielos’s voice tells stories with honesty, passion, and movement. It caresses and scratches you in a sensitive and stirring journey toward an intimate and vulnerable place we recognize as our own. María Cielos moves gracefully between stage presence, words and silence, arrangements, and sound textures, making everything feel like a one-way journey where all emotions are welcome — just like life itself.
María Cielos emerges as an essential voice in the territory; a creator who transforms fragility into strength and silence into music.
