This year, 2023, finds Sara Correia elevated to the fitting status of a musical sensation: she has toured the world to generous applause; she has released two albums that have been highly acclaimed by the public, praised by the critics and awarded prizes by the industry; she has been nominated for the Latin Grammys and invited to be Portugal’s voice under the watchful eye of institutional Europe; she has sung Amália Rodrigues and paid tribute to Carlos do Carmo; she has surrounded herself with some of today’s finest lyricists and composers; and she has proved that the fado is her home ground.“And it’s all happened naturally, without me looking for it or forcing events. Everything has turned out as life has ordained it,”Sara assures modestly.
Liberdade, the fado singer also explains, is exactly the album that she wanted to make at this point, an album that has been recorded without any pressure, the fruit of many conversations with her regular producer, Diogo Clemente. “We have designed an album entirely made up of the melodic language of the fado, and with a strong Portuguese accent”, highlights the producer. A close-knit, uniform album, tinged with many different colours and textures that are the result of experiences and subtle influences captured from other genres. All this fits in with Sara Correia’s style, all this resonates in her spirit, which is fully expressed in this Liberdade.
